We examined 10,000 pairs of randomly selected genes searching for the gene symbols in PubMed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed). The plot reports the proportion of pairs that showed 0 hits, between 1 and 5 hits, between 6 and 10 hits, etc.
