Bi/CNS 163. Sleep and Dreams
Research Proposal
Guidelines:
It must be an original research proposal. This means that you will have to scan through and read the previous literature.
Groups will be formed during the first class. The number of students per group (2-4) will depend on the number of students taking the class. One proposal per group.
Work must involve psychophysics (no fMRI, no electrophysiology, no animal experiments, no pharmacology, etc).
The proposal should be realistic (e.g. you cannot test recollection of 1015 numbers in 3000 1-yr old subjects from the Galapagos Islands).
It should include clear controls to address the question(s) you are posing.
A detailed description of the experiments that you propose is required (e.g. we will test recollection of n country names in so and so many subjects. Each name will be shown for so and so many ms (or range of values for the parameters). The subject's task will be to indicate in a 2 alternative forced choice ... Recollection will be tested h hours later, etc.
Clearly state what the possible results you would expect, how each result would be interpreted, what the possible confounding factors are, how you would address them.
